5 reasons why Tibet unlike Kosovo will not become independent

Unlike Kosovo Tibet has a recorded history of statehood extending back to 127 B.C. Tibetan nation used to have its own Government, its own Foreign Office, treaty relations with other countries, distinct culture, history, language and religion. Before the Chinese invasion of 1950 Tibet was spread over 2.5 million sq km (965,255 sq mi), representing almost 25% of China's landmass, while Kosovo is less than 11,000 sq km (4,203 sq mi).

Nevertheless, Tibet will not become independent in the foreseeable future, and there are at least 5 reasons for that:

1. As a result of China's policy of population transfer, the non-Tibetan population has increased many times, reducing Tibetans to an insignificant minority in their own country. The language, customs and traditions of Tibet are gradually fading away. On the contrary it was Albanian population growth that slowly overwhelmed the ethnic Serbs in Kosovo.

2. Becoming more and more dependent on Chinese import United States will not support Tibet independence. In historic perspective this is not entirely something new, since American cowboy attitude (profits first!) towards native people is well known.

3. Fearing separatist movements on its own territory India will block Tibet independence as it already happened in the past. In November 1950 Tibet appealed to the United Nations for international assistance to oppose Chinese annexation. The Indian delegate to the United Nations opposed the inclusion of the question on the agenda. The issue was dropped on India's insistence.

4. China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a nuclear superpower, which makes a lot of difference.

5. Unlike oily tracks running through Kosovo, no major oil-pipeline will pass through Tibet.

All the Dalai Lama is asking today is autonomy, but the world turns its back to him and applauds to Kosovo's clamor.

DONT MAKE US CHINESE FEEL ANGRY

WE ARE THE SAME FLESH AND BLOOD MADE PEOPLE, WO DO HAVE OUR OWN FEELINGS, OUR OWN JUSTICE AND OUR OWN VALUE.
WHEN YOU WEST PEOPLE GIVE YOUR JUDGEMENT TODAY,THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE TO THE COLONIAL AREA NOT TOO MUCH TIME AGO.WHEN YOU DRINKED THE BLOOD OF FORMER COLONIAL AREA, YOU BECOME RICH AND HAVE SOMETIME TO THINK FOR US... YOU SAID YOU ARE POOR GUYS WITH WRONG VALUE. FUCK, ISNT IT A SHAME? DO SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR THE WORLD.
WE WANT TO BE FRIENDS NOT ENIMIES WITH YOU, ALTHOUGH YOU ALWAYS TURN YOUR BACK ON US.

DONT MAKE US CHINESE FEEL ANGRY

''WHEN YOU WEST PEOPLE GIVE YOUR JUDGEMENT TODAY,THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE TO THE COLONIAL AREA''

Hey asshole. If you are going to use the colonial era as an example and Chinese actions mimic the example then maybe the Chinese should stop and think about their actions being exactly the same as colonial times. Chinese has no respect for life human or otherwise, don't give a shit about the environment and have lost all ideals of honor and respect. Chinese actions disgust not only the west but the world at large. Grab a fuckin clue and leave Tibet alone you control freaks!

ummm... kinda hypocritical

ummm... kinda hypocritical considering most of the damage of the world are done by western countries, and most of the wars of the past 200 years were started by these same countries.

Regardless of international

Regardless of international law or politics, no nation or group has the moral right to violently oppress another group, whether the victims are under their sovereignty or not. It's a fact that both the US and China continue to deny basic human rights certain people they should be protecting. This SHOULD make you angry. Be sure to direct your anger at the appropriate parties.

I sincerely hope that you're

I sincerely hope that you're not a token of the Chinese population at large. You need to show respect for your 5000 year old culture and make productive use of the intelligence given to you by your forefathers .

The Tibetan issue is not one that could be drowned out by the sort of "situational patriotism" displayed in your comments. The Olympic embarrassment is the reflection of a governmental policy which has failed to win the hearts & minds of all ethnics. Hot blooded reactionary sentinents on either side of the equation merely aggravate the situation, which could soon hit the flash point. Look at the world today, who needs more violence?

Divert your anger toward a positive solution & help build a nation with the capacity for inclusion and compassion ......... it will require your efforts right now ..... multiplied by 1.3 billion times!

Kosovo is Serbia

On Kosovo it was Albanian population growth that slowly overwhelmed the ethnic Serbs in their own country: in Serbian's Kosmet (i.e Kosovo & Metohya).

Key facts about Kosovo's Islamic Albanian minority of Serbia and the century long drive by Islamic extremists to exterminate Kosovo Serbs from that region:

1389---Muslims defeat Christian Serb defenders in Kosovo, depopulate the area and invite mountain tribe of Albanians, in exchange for converting to Islam, to take over pillaged land from Serbs.

1999---NATO launched air strikes against Serbia for 78 days, killing thousands of Serbian civilians. The KLA (Albanian Islamic terrorist organization) and U.S. advisers create a fake humanitarian catastrophe by telling and even forcing Kosovo Albanians to flee into Albania and Macedonia Serbian forces are falsely blamed for driving out Albanians. The U.S. scores a huge propaganda success with images of refugees. Thousands of Kosovo Serbs are murdered by Albanians as NATO takes control of the province. Over 150 Serbian Orthodox Churches would be destroyed by Albanian Muslims protected by NATO troops.

February, 2008---Having failed to achieve their separatist agenda through international law and in the U.N., the U.S. switched gears and told the Albanian separatists to unilaterally declare an independent “Kosova”. This is an illegal act which violates all international norms and conventions and laws. The U.S. reliance is on military force only. The illegal measure is justified by force only.

I beg your pardon? No. Not

I beg your pardon? No. Not even a little tiny bit. That sentence is completely and utterly fallacious.
Up until the invasion in 1949, Tibet was a soverign state with an autonomous government. The PRC invaded and coerced said government into signing the seventeen point agreement with threat of force - an act rendering the treaty invalid under the Vienna convention for the Law of Treaties whic the PRC has ratified and used to free themselves of many treaties that western powers had forced them into signing earlier on. Tibet was invaded in 1949 and annexed in 1950. So in modern maps, it is part of China.

Also, in saying this I'm in no way vilifying the people of China. Unfortunately, many governments make bad choices and act wrongly, but that doesn't mean every person in the entire country is to blame.

Also, I'm sorry to get so volatile, but that comment really irked me.
